Child Travel Consent Letter

International Child Abduction has become an increasing concern for many governments including Canada. These concerns about child safety has resulted in special requirements when children under 18 years of age are travelling without both parents.

You may be required to provide documentary evidence in the form of a notarized consent to travel letter in order to establish authority to travel as either the parent(s) / legal guardian(s) with a minor. In addition to the notarized travel letter, please consult the relevant airline and/or Consulates of the countries the child is travelling to for specific requirements that apply to your child’s trip to avoid disappointment.

Common travel arrangements

  • Child Travelling With One Parent – Here a minor is travelling with only one parent, the absent parent may be expected to provide notarized consent letter from unaccompanying parent.

  • Child Travelling Alone or without a Parent – If a minor is traveling alone or is accompanied by an adult other than a parent, both parents (or the sole custodial parent) must provide a notarized travel consent.

  • Child Has Only One Parent – If a minor child has only one parent as evidenced by the child’s birth certificate, a notarized copy of the birth certificate or the original may be sufficient proof allowing for travel.

The travel consent letter can also be drafted for you.  The current fees for this service is $59 plus applicable taxes which includes both drafting and Notarization by the Notary Public. WE can also send you a free template and you pay only a stamping fee of $40

Please note that providing your personal information for the provision of drafts of documents i.e. Statutory Declaration/Affidavit/child travel consent letter does not constitute Legal Advice nor create a lawyer/client relationship.
